19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.

The win also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional victory, took control to force a third set.

He saved 4 initial chances in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
